Over and Out

Just like that.
After months of planning and anticipation. Months of emotions swirling inside my stomach and thoughts of 2005 and what brought me to this year- all those chances where I could have ended up somewhere else instead of underneath this Chuppah. Looking at my best friend and the man who was raised under a different religion but enough of the same values that we can see eye to eye and dance to the same tune.
We stood there, shaded by the hot sun watching our loved ones fanning themselves with tears of joy in their eyes. Or maybe it was the sweat dripping from their foreheads?
An amalgamation of the Orthodox to the Catholic. Fusions from Singapore to South Africa and wrapped neatly with a Taoist. Brought together by two people who decided to make their story beautiful.
And this is how it was. It came and went so quickly. I am Susi Doring Preston and with the new year, I start yet another chapter in the life of a Ginrod Preston. I’m sad to see my family go, I miss the stress of loading and unloading and planning and dancing and celebration and tears. It was a storm of joy and now the calm seas of the beginnings of marriage await. Which doesn’t seem too different from before, except that now we need to buy a couch.
